RHONA FRANCES
Rhona Frances is a ceramic artist based in Falmouth, Cornwall where she lives with her young family and works from her home studio. Rhona’s hand-coiled vessels are raku-fired and finished with kintsugi (the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold) to celebrate their imperfections. Shaped by patient hands, during a time of deep personal and spiritual transition into motherhood; Rhona’s vessels speak to the slow and ancient craft of clay.
“I fire my vessels outdoors using the raku method, it feels beautiful, unpredictable and transformative, much like my experience of trying to conceive, pregnancy, birth and early motherhood. The fractures in the glaze surface are what speak to me; no two pieces are ever the same, just as no two journeys in life follow the same path. These vessels remind me that even in brokenness, there is artistry and meaning.”
