NANCY NICHOLSON

Stoff Studios was founded in 2015 by Carys Briggs, a textile designer who trained at both the Royal College of Art and Central St Martins.

Carys produces all her pieces in their river-side studio in Woolwich. A part of London that has a wealth of resources and a great community of makers. She uses traditional methods to create refined, intimate collections of textiles and home-wares. Carys takes a humble approach to her practice, drawing inspiration from the materials that worked with. Often concentrating on either a single piece or a small batch of works, she produces objects with a tactile nature, designed to work together in the home to create plains of colour and texture. The fabric pieces are inspired by gestural mark making and mono printing techniques, often translated into silk screen prints.

Stoff Studios aim to produce thoughtful collections led by her curiosity and enthusiasm for making, to create a more studied, detailed response to her initial inspirations, taking account of how the finished pieces, and the materials they are made from, exist within a wider context.
