JUSTINE EAVIS
Justine Eavis lives and works in St Agnes, Cornwall. She studied fine art painting at Reading University 1985-89, and has painted and exhibited from then until now. Living in Cornwall has meant a return to landscape as a subject matter. It is inescapable and a constant draw.
It is the landscape that she encounters and passes through every day which interests her. She paints the margins where land meets sea and tries to capture something of a specific place’s geography and plant life, as well as the sense of that space.
She tries to create a tension between the recognisable and the unrecognisable, exploring the margin between figuration and abstraction. In the landscape she looks for the contrast between the brutal and the fragile, the rugged and the apparently whimsical.
Justine also creates and paints still life compositions drawing inspiration from her surroundings and scenes in daily life. often featuring flora and objects.
