SOPHIE GLOVER

Sophie Glover (b.1992) lives and works in South-East London making oil paintings, drawings & jewellery. Her still life paintings are little tableaus of her thoughts; made using dark, muted, autumnal or milky palettes, shot through with visceral reds - her paintings repetitively layer and return to certain themes and imagery. She uses symbolic objects, resting in domestic settings, to explore themes of rest, personal rituals and the occult. Hands rest on tables of ephemera where postcards tell secret stories, luminous phones are portals to our digital life, anaemic fruit or flowers often suggest an element of decay and women sleep heavy as rocks

Sophie was awarded Arts Council England's Grants for the Arts and has been long-listed for the BP Portrait Award. She has undertaken several residencies as well as participating in multiple solo and group exhibitions across the UK, France and Sweden.
